Gentatsu Matsuoka Galleries

Gentatsu was a herbalist who wrote many books about plants. The titles of two of his picture books are given below. Click on a title to see the book's pictures. These books were reprinted many years after his death (i.e., in 1891). Pictures in these reprinted books were fully colored in contrast to Gentatsu's original pictures which were colored only in shades of gray.
